2nd - 4th grade. |
Students who need a FUN way to work on paragraph writing. This class is for students who have previously been through a handwriting class at The Handwriting Clinic who need a fun way to work on generalizing handwriting skills to writing. This class is also for students who need to work on keyboarding generalization skills. Students will work on paragraph formation, use of spell checkers (handheld or integrated into software), and handwriting or keyboarding generalization. Parents will have a choice—to have their child do handwriting or keyboarding. This camp will cover the basics of how to write paragraphs using Kidspiration 2 software to diagram paragraphs. Students can then handwrite the paragraphs, or can type paragraphs in our learning lab using Write Outloud software with text to speech and phonetic spell checking. Even students who struggle with paragraph writing should have
success! |
Students will EXPERIENCE writing topics through FUN, multi-sensory science activities. Students will explore cool, zany science activities the first hour. Then they will work on paragraph formation using Kidspiration 2 software. Next, they will have a snack break. The final hour is devoted to paragraph writing.

What is Kidspiration 2 software?
Kidspiration 2 software takes ideas and forms them into outlines and story webs. The software program helps students organize thoughts and ideas by giving them a visual diagram or outline.
What is Write OutLoud software?
Write OutLoud software is a phonetic word processing program that allows a student who spells phonetically, to write paragraphs with very few misspelled words. No longer do they need to do “safe” writing with brief sentences of words they know how to spell. Write OutLoud corrects most phonetic and dyslexic spelling errors. This software has text to speech that allows a child to hear what they are writing. This software is awesome for beginning or advanced writers and makes writing FUN! It can be purchased for home for $99 and is awesome for students to use when doing homework, writing essays, etc. Most schools have this software program available for students who qualify for assistive technology as it is a very popular program.. |
ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY WRITING LITERACY EVALUATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM |
Zany Labs and The Handwriting Clinic now have a writing literacy evaluation and training program. Students come in for an assistive technology evaluation. We can then have one of our teachers provide training on how to develop writing skills using the software in our writing literacy lab. An evaluation is $80 and the cost of a training session is $60. Then we will have Zany Lab summer camps that will allow more, FUN practice! In the fall, we will have parent night out Zany Creative Writing Labs, with fun, theme based writing activities where the student can get more practice on skills with other students. |
