Individual Reading Tutoring

It is very difficult to find quality reading tutoring and help for kids who are mildly to moderately delayed in reading. Many kids are just a little slow to read. Reading is very developmental and expected to be mastered in early grades now. Some students just are young and will develop skills as they mature. Others may have some learning differences or dyslexia. Our reading tutors do individual testing on the kids - at the reading-tutoring rate, and do ongoing evaluation as well. Rather than doing a standard battery of tests, they will test kids initially and as needed to insure that they are working towards skills in the areas that need improvement.

Once the reading tutor determines the skill areas that need to be worked on, they use a multi-sensory approach. They do work on flashcards, reading cards, sight words and enriched reading programs. In addition, they often gets kids up and moving and jumping on a trampoline to work on repeated visual memory of words. They now have access to our motor gym with our multi-sensory equipment, to work on skills. They do multi-sensory teaching as well, using some of the cool multi-sensory activities that we employ at The Handwriting Clinic, to work on reading. Kids will love writing their phonics attack skills in Kool-Aid paint, or exploding paint! We get kids attention!

If you are interested in having your child work with our reading tutors, you can call the clinic and schedule an evaluation.

Also, if your child struggles with reading, it is a good idea to get your child’s vision tested. Many kiddos with handwriting and reading problems have some undiagnosed vision related learning differences. If you call the clinic, we can give you the names of 2 optometrists that we closely work with.
